Who are we?
Based in the Algarve, Portugal, New Light Pictures is the name of a team that produces high-quality visual media with its own resources, since the earlier stages of pre-production all the way to the finished product and respective marketing materials, taking advantage of its greatest asset – the outstanding resourcefulness, passion and commitment of its members.
What do we do?
We’re interested in producing all kinds of visual media (commercials, music videos, promos, trailers, viral videos, etc), so, if you have a project in mind, please contact us so we can discuss it further.
But our passion, what really drives us and unites us, is an unrelenting love for cinema – and as such, our most beloved projects have been, so far, in independent, guerrilla-style filmmaking.
What have we done in the past?
New Light Pictures have been producing visual media for a long time now, but there were 2 productions that represented major leaps in our progress. They were both no-budget short films which were praised for their high production value:
- Command SUBTITLED (March 2010) – Made with 27.5€, this 10 min. short war film was selected for several national film festivals, including Oporto International Film Festival (Porto 7). In the weekly competition Shortcutz Lisboa it was nominated for "Best Short of the Month", "Best Art Direction of 2010" and "Best Production of 2010". It was the winner in this last category.
- Vila Gondra (March 2009) – Made with 65€, this 40 min. horror film was promoted and broadcasted by one of the major national TV channels (Sic) and praised by the press, with articles published in several newspapers and magazines.
How did we start?
We started as a group of friends, with a crappy DV camera, who wanted to make movies. And we did make them. And we haven't stopped since.
When New Light Pictures was founded by Patrício Faísca, in 2001, most of its members where around 13 years old. Since then we’ve grown: in age, in maturity, in size, in organization, in technical quality, in ingenuity and in ambition.
We’re now more self-demanding than ever. And we deliver.
But don’t just take our word for it: check-out our films (you can access them through the sidebar) and see it for yourself.
Join our team
We’re always looking for people who share our enthusiasm and passion for filmmaking. We take our work very seriously and we expect the highest standards of professionalism and self-initiative from our team members. We want people who are available, responsible, and utterly committed to the job they are assigned.
This being said, we don’t mind working with people with no previous experience or training if we feel they have something to add to our team.
If you would like to work with us, please contact us sending some information about yourself (a CV would be appreciated), your available time, the type of work you do and the type of work you would be interested in doing with New Light Pictures.
New Light Pictures survives solely on the good will of all the people who get involved in its projects.
We don’t have any funding. We don’t have budget for our films. We can’t pay anyone. Both cast and crew support their own expenses. We use our own equipment, bought with our scarce personal resources.
We do borrow lots of things from lots of people. We’re experts at asking favours.
This is not necessarily the way we would like it to be - it’s simply the only way we have.
Any assistance to our projects, in any form, would be much appreciated. We would love to have the financial means to at least support the catering for our cast and crew on the shooting days – we don’t even have that.
So, if you like what we do and you would like to help us to make more and better (because we’re always aiming for better), maybe you would like to get involved with us as a producer, sponsor or supporter of any kind – you might even just want to make a small, one-time contribution, which will be deeply appreciated and very well invested, we assure you.
If that’s the case, please contact us so we can talk further on the details of such a partnership.
Our most important needs in terms of sponsorship at the moment are, in this order:
- Supporting expenses on shooting days (catering and transportations for cast&crew)
- Insuring our equipment
- Buying more and better equipment
